For Amy, starting a new with an established business is more than preserving a piece of Dawson’s vibrant history. She’s created a space where local artists, creatives and the community can connect, showcase their work, and be celebrated; authentically capturing true Klondike moments.
What happens when a casual chat at a local event turns into taking over one of Dawson’s most familiar businesses?
In our third episode of Klondike Cornerstones, we sit down with Amy Ball, owner of Peabody’s Photo Parlour and P.B.G. Gallery, to talk about what it really takes to run a creative business in the North. We hear how Amy turned a conversation with previous owner, Jackie Olsen, into creating a local space to sell and showcase works made by Dawson artists.
From a legacy of being a family portrait studio, Peabody’s has gone through various ebbs and flows of owners, but now continues on as a space of tradition, events, and exploration of Dawson art. With unpredictable tourism seasons and shipping costs to older buildings, winter ideas, and the honest realities of wearing every hat as a small business owner, Amy gives us a snapshot of what exactly it takes to keep a business moving in Dawson.
